Computers for Schools
This program developed by Industry Canada has already been implemented successfully in various countries, including Kenya.

STI's three-prong approach is to:

  • Introduce Angolan youth to information technology (IT) by distributing refurbished computers and equipment to schools, libraries, community centres, orphanages and other strategic locations
  • Train Angolans to become technicians who can repair and upgrade computers
  • Recycle office equipment.

Partners in this project include:

  • Angola's Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Education
  • Industry Canada
  • Computers for Schools International
  • Microsoft
  • the Rotary Club of Luanda
  • FESA Angola and FESA Canada.

Magicians Without Borders
Magicians Without Borders (Magiciens sans Frontières) is a non-profit organization founded in Montreal by restaurant entrepreneur, magician and philanthropist Fouad Filali.

Capitalizing on the therapeutic value of humour, the group brightens the lives of thousands of Angolan war orphans in a variety of ways. To-date, the magicians have donated food, clothing, school supplies, bicycles and other basic items to two orphanages, presented magic shows in various regions of Angola and introduced a few talented kids to the art of magic, with the aim of opening a magician's school in Luanda.

Magiciens sans Frontières first toured Angola in February 2004. It is scheduled to make a return trip this fall.

Humanitarian Aid
To alleviate the suffering and poverty in a country where approximately 80% of the population is indigent, FESA Canada makes regular shipments of food and other necessities by air or by sea. On arrival, the merchandise is distributed by FESA Angola to the areas where the need is greatest.

Canadian partners and supporters of the Foundation are kind enough to donate emergency supplies as well as a wide range of surplus goods, including:

  • basic, non-perishable foodstuffs
  • medicine; medical equipment; hygiene products
  • clothing, footwear, accessories and textiles
  • bicycles; automotive parts
  • water pumps; generators
  • construction materials, tools and equipment
  • school supplies, manuals, books, CDs and DVDs
  • computers, printers; telephones
  • glasses, prostheses, wheelchairs, etc.

Transportation is funded by donations made to the Eduardo dos Santos Foundation Canada.

In 2004, FESA Canada expedited three large containers. A dozen shipments in total are planned for 2005. In the early months of this year, the Foundation air-shipped masks, gloves, protective clothing, dressings, disinfectant and other supplies urgently needed in the fight against the deadly Marburg hemorrhagic fever.
