A message from our founder
On this 5th of March 1996, I have the joy of realizing a dream that I have shared for many years with people who, like me, wish to foster peace, freedom, justice and universal fraternity. Together, we created a philanthropic organization whose mission is to address the many needs of Angolans, especially the most disadvantaged.
Our country being at the periphery of the world's economy, it faces huge political and economic challenges. The problem is compounded by the fact that modern societies are in constant flux as they adapt to endlessly changing technologies. Angola not only needs to catch up, it needs to keep up with all these changes.
Regretfully, our government and our institutions are still unable to meet the full range of needs of our population. Civil society must play a major role in the reconstruction of our country. With the aim of bolstering altruism, we have recently adopted a law outlining the proper functioning of non-profit organizations in Angola.
The Eduardo dos Santos Foundation materializes the spirit of this law. By coordinating the efforts of various organizations and private-sector donors, it puts into play powerful instruments of social change and responsible citizenry, while enhancing the quality life of Angolans through advancements in education, healthcare, scientific research, environmental awareness, culture, sports, etc. In harmonizing traditional and contemporary values, it seeks to strike an ideal balance.
I am ever so proud to lend my name to such an organization.
José Eduardo dos Santos
President of the Republic of Angola
